A Picture Is Worth More Than A Thousand Words

As I was catching up on my blog posts in Outlook today I came across a couple statistics that were geared toward marketing your business online, however, can be extrapolated to your organization's signage.  I thought I would share these with you and provide some of my own thoughts on how to translate this to your next signage project.

So if you are creating a banner for your event, site sign for a new development or creating your new vehicle or fleet graphics this is pretty important for you.  Keep it simple, straight forward and visual.  Have you seen the McDonald's semi's driving around?  How can you miss the HUGE Big Mac staring at you as you drive by?  Do you even have to look at the name McDonald's to know who it is?  Of course not, and like me, I am sure you can easily remember that truck.

So you want people to remember you versus your competition?  You want them to visit your website or call you?  How does this apply to you?  Easy, use eye catching, descriptive images on your development signs, vehicle wraps, tradeshow booth signs to communicate your business and what you do.  Instead of saying you sell windows or window coverings & have your company information all in text, use a professional photo of a home with beautiful windows or window coverings (see the Milgard Truck we wrapped as an example) with basic company information.  How eye catching is that?

So you don't sell a product but a service? We worked with Director's Mortgage on all their new tradeshow booths and they actually incorporated an actual front door into their booth.  Now that is something their customers will remember.  Because what does a mortgage get you?  Your new house!

This is critical when you are talking about spending money on signage that you need to bring you revenue.  Your vehicle wrap & graphics, banner, site sign, monument sign, event signs, etc. are there to bring you or who you are working with recognition and revenue.  So if you want people to remember your name and your website or phone number, be brief, stand out and don't throw in any additional fluff.  Don't explain everything you do on your sign or graphics, they can figure that when they visit your website or call you.  All they need to know is what product or service are you selling, how can they contact you and what is your name.

When we work with  new businesses or with new organizations, we find they tend to get caught up in educating potential customers viewing their signs and graphics in everything they do, where they are, how to contact them and make the font BIG!  Think again folks.  Keep it simple, give them a reason to call you or visit your site, and give them a reason to want more.
